All of the artwork shown is a collaborative effort on multiple levels. It is an art form that has evolved from the vision of two men who each drew on a lifetime of experiences in developing their respective artistic voices and the vision of their art.

Long time friends, Sal Romano and Herb Cover are each accomplished artists in their own right, but from different disciplines of the art world, one in photography and the other in painting and sculpture. Together, they envisioned an art form that would combine the best features of Herb’s photography with Sal’s artistic and design talents. The examples shown herein are a manifestation of their combined talents.

Each of these fine art giclee’s on canvas started as an original photograph. The image was then digitally modified on a computer using sophisticated techniques and specialized programs. The final images are then enlarged and printed with state-of-the-art digital printing equipment designed to capture color and texture inherent in original works on canvas. Finally, embellishments in oil or acrylic paint are applied to the canvas by hand to further create textural richness.

Sal Romano is originally from Brooklyn, New York and has lived in Scottsdale, Arizona for the past fourteen years. As early as 1949, while in grammar school, Sal won an award for designing a poster for the New York City Subway system. After a three year stint in the Army Sal attended the Art Careers School in Manhattan to pursue his passion, but before he finished, sought employment with a design firm in the food service industry. After five years, at the ripe old age of 26, Sal started his own design firm. After being at the helm of Romano/Gatland for thirty years, Sal retired from a firm known worldwide. Romano/Gatland thrives today and is owned in part by Sal’s son.

Herb Cover is originally from Boston, Massachusetts, and graduated from Northeastern University. He migrated to the west in 1978 and has lived in Scottsdale, Arizona for ten years. Herb loves to travel and the vast extent of his wanderings is reflected in his award winning photography. Herb has been an entrepreneur all of his adult life and headed up a successful medical supply business.

Sal and Herb recently had a show at the Rima Fine Art Gallery on Main Street in Scottsdale, Arizona at which over thirty pieces of art were on exhibit. Half of the show sold the first night!
